The Response Service helps people retain their independence and enjoy the comforts of their own home, secure in the knowledge that help, advice or reassurance can be provided quickly in an emergency situation.

Who is it for?

The service is for elderly, sick or disabled people who live in Oldham Borough.

It is provided by Oldham Council.

How it works

You'll be given a personal alarm unit which connects you to specially trained staff in a control centre.

In an emergency, you can summon help by pressing a button on the unit or a small portable button which can be attached to clothing, wrist strap or a neck cord and can be carried anywhere in the home. The approximate range is 20 metres.

When you press the alarm, the operator at the control centre will be able to talk to you and assess the situation. The operator will then inform your contact, or send assistance.

If the button is pressed and you don’t answer, a responder will be dispatched to your address immediately.

Service levels

You can choose from three different levels of service.

Gold

£6.50 per week and a £40 installation charge (this could be part of a payment plan).

  • Full assessment for all preventative services
  • Provision, installation, demonstration and full testing of the helpline base unit, smoke alarm and pendant
  • Call monitoring service – if the alarm is activated the Helpline operator will provide advice and reassurance, and will contact relatives or emergency services, or helpline response will physically attend to assist with your emergency. The staff will have to have access to your property via a key safe encase of emergencies
  • A weekly telephone call to ensure that you are ok

Silver

£5 per week and a £40 installation charge (this could be part of a payment plan).

  • Full assessment for all preventative services
  • Provision, installation, demonstration and full testing of the helpline base unit, smoke alarm and pendant
  • Call monitoring service – if the alarm is activated the Helpline operator will provide advice and reassurance, and will contact relatives or emergency services, or helpline response will physically attend to assist with your emergency. The staff will have to have access to your property via a key safe encase of emergencies

Bronze

£2 per week and a £40 installation charge (this could be part of a payment plan).

  • Full assessment for all preventative services
  • Provision, installation, demonstration and full testing of the helpline base unit, smoke alarm and pendant
  • Call monitoring service – if the alarm is activated the Helpline operator will provide advice and reassurance, and will
    contact relatives or emergency services where needed
  • You will provide 2 key holders who will be available 24 hours a day 7 days per week
  • If we think there is a risk to your health, wellbeing and safety and we can not contact a key holder the emergency service may force entry to your property
