Assisted collections
If you need help putting your bins out to be collected, you can make an arrangement with the Council.
Criteria
- You must be physically unable to put your bins out
- There must be no other members of the same household (over the age of 18) who can help.
Terraced properties
If you live in a terraced property you must put your house number on the back gate and all containers.
Alley gates
If you have alley gates you will need to open them for the collection crew.
Apply

You may need to show some kind of documentation:
- Attendance allowance
- Disability allowance
- Mobility allowance
- Sickness benefits etc
- Doctors/hospital note etc.
An Officer from the Waste Management Group may visit you to help them make a decision.
You may be refused if:
- Your application does not meet any of the criteria for assisted collection
- Your application does not include the necessary supporting documents
- Assisted collection would be too difficult for the collection crews.
You will be told if you can have an assisted collection within 21 days of applying.
Renewing
- Assisted collection must be renewed every year. Renewal applications will be sent to you
- The service may stop if the criteria of the renewal application are not met
- The service may be put on hold until any requests for medical evidence are received and approved.
Appeal against a decision
Write within 10 working days of the refusal to the Group Manager (Waste Management).
