In January Oldham Council's website received a total of 1,244,202 page views (3,173,634 hits) from 62,919 unique visitors. For more detailed information please use the links below to view the full reports for each month. Reports are published in Adobe PDF format and are approximately 250kb.
We record page views as these are related to content and user behaviour. For example, if a user requests an HTML page that has three graphics files, the web server might make a log entry for the three graphics files, the HTML page, and perhaps add some lines for overhead and each is recorded as a hit. However, only one collective page view is recorded. Thus page views are more reliable than hits as a form of measurement.
"It is not acceptable or useful to refer to hits. By counting hits, one is simply totting up all the individual files - including graphic files - that the visitor requests." -- Office of the e-Envoy
Unique visitors are individuals who visited the site during the report period. If someone visits more than once, they are counted only the first time they visit.
We make use of an independent monitoring service to check that our website is available at all times. For the month of January our website was available for 99.71% of the time. You can view the detailed availability statistics for the Oldham Council website here.
