Home Library Service

Oldham Library Service provides a free personal delivery service to people who are unable to visit their local library due to age, infirmity or disability.

The service van visits once every four weeks. It offers a selection of books in standard or large print, talking books and music on cassette and CD. Special requests are met and any item may be reserved.

If you are eligible to use the service we will telephone you to arrange a home visit. We will discuss the type of books you like to read and arrange for provision on a regular basis.

Older people in residential homes and sheltered dwellings

Older people in residential homes will usually find a selection of books on loan from Oldham Libraries in the common room or lounge. You can borrow any of the books, which include crime and adventure stories, romances, family sagas and historical novels as well as travel books, biographies and other non-fiction titles. Books in large print are supplied with each collection.

Supervisors of homes who would like a collection of books for residents should contact the Residential Homes Service on 0161 770 8004.

Collections will be delivered from your nearest community library on a rota basis. Talking books can also be supplied through the Residential Homes Service.
