The Greater Manchester Youth Games has taken place annually for 19 years, and has seen thousands of young athletes enjoying their first taste of sporting competition. With competition in a variety of sports and athletes from 10 boroughs, the Games provide a chance for young people to compete, be part of a team and representing their borough. It is a totally inclusive event with able-bodied, disabled and disadvantaged people taking part. The game is not about elite sports but about opening up sporting opportunities and giving everyone a unique chance to enjoy success, personal achievements and the sheer exhilaration of sport at its best.
Saturday 30th June 2007 saw hundred’s of young people from Oldham descend in Manchester for this year’s Greater Manchester Youth Games. The Games is one of the largest sporting events for children and young people in the North West and brings young people together for a day of exciting sporting action.
Aspiring young sports stars from all corners of the borough joined together to represent Team Oldham, which saw them battle it out with the 9 other Greater Manchester borough’s for medals, personal bests, and individual as well as team goals. Top talent was on show through out the day as Oldham produced a showcase of skills to make the parents and spectators who had travelled to Manchester proud of our team.
