Housing Options
An important part of our work is to ensure that all our customers are aware of their housing rights and housing options. We are able to do this through our Housing Options Centre where information, advice and assistance are offered on a wide range of housing issues. Our Housing Options Centre offers a free, confidential and impartial service to everyone whether you are a tenant, lodger, owner or landlord.
Please be aware that there is sometimes a very high demand for certain types of properties in some areas. We therefore have to prioritise applicants wishing to be rehoused, based on their needs. In some areas there is a waiting list for properties.
If you would like free and confidential information about other ways to find a home or solve your housing problems, our Housing Options Centre can help you.
We offer:
- Free use of the Internet to help you look for somewhere to live
- A resource area stocked with daily and weekly newspapers
- A directory of housing schemes
- Details of local Housing Associations
- Details of local Accredited Landlords
- Details of local Estate Agents and Letting Agencies
- Packs containing practical and useful information for people who are looking for a place to live
- Advice on private renting and home ownership
- Mediation services
- Information about tenant and resident groups
- Advice about unlawful occupancy
Direct Exchanges
Council tenants can swap their homes by agreement with another council tenant or a housing association tenant.
There is a list of people seeking an exchange in every housing office. This is updated monthly.
