Tenancy Relations Service
First Choice Homes Oldham's Tenancy Relations Service provides FREE and CONFIDENTIAL advice and assistance to both tenants and landlords in the private rented sector.
We can provide free housing advice on all aspects of housing law in the private rented sector. This includes advice relating to:
- Tenancy agreements
- Disrepair issues
- Notice to quit
- Rent deposits
- Possession proceedings
- Rent increase and/or rent arrears
- Claiming discretionary housing benefits payments
- Shortfall in housing benefit payments
- Enforcement action against unlawful eviction and harassment
Our Aim
The Tenancy Relations Service aims to promote good relations between landlords and tenants and to encourage good practice in the private rented sector.
Our Role
The main role of First Choice Homes Oldham's Tenancy Relations Service is to:
- Develop mutually agreeable solutions to disputes between private tenant and their landlords or agents, via intervention or mediation.
- Intervene in allegations of illegal eviction and harrassment under the Protection From Eviction Act 1977.
- Prevent homelessness as required by the Homelessness Act 2002
Harassment and illegal eviction are serious criminal offences. Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council (OMBC) has a legal power contained within Section 6 of tThe Protection From Eviction Act 1977 to investigate allegations of harassment and unlawful eviction. This power is exercised on behalf of OMBC through First Choice Homes Oldham's Tenancy Relations Service.
First Choice Homes Oldham's Tenancy Relations Service has a clear mandate to instigate a criminal prosecution against Landlords or their agents who subject their tenants to a campaign of criminal harassment or unlawfully evict them without recourse to the "due process of law".
