The Lord Group
The Lord Group is a family owned and managed business based in Rochdale. They have been operating for over 70 years. They employ over 150 people directly and utilise many other local firms to help them undertake their work. They carry out building refurbishment and painting works.
Over 85% of their work is carried out for social registered landlords, like us. The majority of this work is therefore in or on people’s homes and all of their operatives are trained to work with respect and consideration.
The Lord Group is undertaking approximately eight million pounds of work for us in 2005-6 as part of a continuing programme to raise our housing stock to the Decent Homes Standard.
They aim to work closely with residents and offer them whatever choices are available, for example: types of door; gas fire selection and types of external cladding. They are however restricted to carrying out the types of work necessary to make homes 'decent'.
As part of their wider involvement they are also helping to deliver our other objectives. These include the recruitment of local people to undertake the work, the use of local community businesses wherever possible, and working with under-represented groups to encourage them to consider construction as a possible future career.
