If you are a Border and Immigration Agency asylum seeker, we will provide you with supported accommodation while you are waiting for a decision on your claim for asylum. We are also available to help you with any problems you may have while you are a resident of Oldham.
You will be assigned a support worker, who will be in regular contact with you until a decision is made on your claim.
We can help you get access to:
- A Doctor and a Dentist
- A Translator (for specific interviews only)
- Education
- Specialist legal and financial advice
- Rehousing advice (once a decision has been made on your claim)
- Our Repairs and Maintenance service, plus help with utilities (electric, gas and water)
- Our Equalities and Community Cohesion Team
We also provide home furnishings and furniture whilst you are in the Border and Immigration Agency scheme.

Our basic package consists of:
- Beds and bedding, a wardrobe and bedside tables
- A Sofa or two easy chairs
- A kitchen table and chairs
- Kitchen utensils
- A cooker and a fridge
- Carpets
We do not provide a television or a washing machine.
'Move-On'
'Move-On' is the process that you go through once a decision has been made on your claim for asylum.
You must leave your supported accommodation within two weeks of the decision being made. This period is not flexible.
If your claim for asylum has been successful you must use this two weeks to find permanent accommodation, access welfare benefits and arrange a National Insurance Number. We may be able to help you with this.
