Fairshare

Fair Share Project in Alt and St James

The projects have successfully provided additional opportunities for young people in the Alt area and St James' area to participate in sport and physical activities locally. The development of physical activity programmes within these areas have also addressed other agendas including community cohesion, health improvement and inequalities, social inclusion and capacity building within the community.

The projects have developed local partnerships with a number of organisations including the Tenants and Residents Association (TRA), Oldham Youth Service, Groundworks, Local Primary Schools, Oldham Play Action Group (OPAG), Housing Association, The ARC, Oldham Athletic - Football in the Community, PCSOs, local residents and young people.

The Alt project currently sees sessions on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings (5 -7pm) at Alt Kick Pitch with trial sessions taking place on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.  A weekly street dance session has been developed at the ARC (5-6.30pm). This has been very well received by young people in the area who do not access 'traditional' sports activity.

The St James' project has sessions taking place on a Monday and Wednesday at Stoneleigh Park (5-7 pm), Tuesday, Friday and Saturday at Pearly Bank, Tuesday and Thursday at Counthill School (5-6.30 pm). The project is currently planning a Stoneleigh Olympic games for June/July 2008.
