Emergency Planning - Be Prepared!

What you can do to prepare for an emergency or disaster situation

It is prudent to be prepared for any kind of emergency such as power cuts, severe weather disruption and floods.

Have an emergency box ready in your home, as you would a first aid box. Include items such as: a battery powered torch, lamp and radio (don’t forget the spare batteries), high-energy food and bottled water.

Have an emergency bag available in your car. Include items such as a torch with spare batteries, additional sweaters, warm coat, boots/Wellingtons, emergency food and drink, especially if you have to travel.

Have the phone numbers of your local emergency services, council, utility companies and family members readily available.

Make sure you know where the main switches are for electricity and gas, and that you know where the stop taps are located for water in your home and if you have to evacuate don’t forget to switch off/turn off before leaving.
