Oldham’s Community Strategy states that;

Regeneration is about places and people.It is about both physical renewal and building stronger communities. (Oldham’s Community Strategy 2005-2020)

Masterplanning

The Regeneration Directorate is responsible for promoting the improvement of the Borough to meet the ever-changing needs and demands of people, businesses and visitors. In order to ensure that changes are coordinated and fully discussed, we develop Masterplans to help with this process.

A Masterplan is a document that describes and maps ideas for the overall development of an area such as a housing estate or town centre.The Masterplans developed by the Regeneration Directorate will generally include present and future land use, urban design and landscaping guidance, and options for improved infrastructure and public service provision and opportunities for private development.

The Masterplans we produce will be used to guide future improvements in an area. They will not necessarily be the blueprint! When the Masterplan is produced we do not know all the changes that may happen over the next five to ten years, but the content of the Masterplans will help to guide these changes when they happen.

We use Masterplans as the first step to providing guidelines for developers, the Council and other agencies, to help promote a co-ordinated approach to improving or adapting the areas under consideration. As part of the process of preparing a Masterplan, we will undertake wide consultation with members of the public and other important partners.
