After being given an assessment of need, all people who are eligible to receive a service from us are also given a financial assessment. Your financial assessment will determine if you are eligible for public funding or if you can afford to contribute to the services we are offering you. By law, Adult and Community Services have the power to charge for services provided. The Council sets the level of charges and is committed to trying to keep them as low as possible. However, there are some services for which there will be a charge, and depending on your situation, you will usually be asked to pay something towards the cost of the service – for example, homecare or attending a day centre.

If you are assessed as requiring a residential placement then the amount you will have to contribute towards the cost will be calculated based on the rules set by the Government.
A finance officer will be available to advise you on your contribution, which will be calculated according to your capital and income.

If you feel you are unable to afford the charges you are required to pay, you can appeal against them. The first step is to contact your nominated Financial Assessment Officer, who will review your case and the assessment made.
