Grey bin for the waste that can’t be recycled

Closed bin lid and no side waste please!

You should ensure that your bin lid is fully closed and no additional waste is presented for collection next to the refuse bin. No extra rubbish other than that in your Grey-wheeled Bin will be taken, unless it is separated for recycling in the Black Box or Green Bag. If you have any queries about refuse collections please see our Common Questions page on Waste Services.

However additional carrier bags of recyclable items, presented with the green bag or black box will be taken on a one off basis, as long as the contents are clearly visible. If you need an additional box or bag please call  'Contact Oldham' on 0161 770 6644 or e-mail contact@oldham.gov.uk.

Bin emptying arrangements

All rubbish bins should be placed out for emptying by 7:15am on your scheduled collection day. Please make sure the handles of your bin face the road.

For terraced properties that currently have side or rear passage collection points:

For properties accessed by no vehicle access walkways:

For properties that currently have front collection points:

Residents of rural communities in isolated farms and houses:

Once emptied please take you grey bin back onto your property as soon as possible. If you live in a terraced property grey bins should not be left in the backings. Bins that are left out can be stolen and are a target for vandalism, as well as being a nuisance for other neighbours

Important information:

  1. The Council will not empty bins that have been put out late, placed in the wrong location, or if they are considered to be unsafe due to excessive weight. If you forget to bring your bin out you will miss your weekly collection and it will be collected on the next available collection day the following week. You will be notified if your bin has not been emptied for a particular reason with a sticker on the bin identifying the problem.
  2. When access to a bin(s) is not possible and the reason for this is outside the control of the householder(s) the Council will aim to collect this refuse within 24 hours.
  3. Put all of the rubbish that you can’t recycle in the grey bin, in carrier bags and make sure that the lid is closed.
  4. Please place kitchen waste, and waste that can’t be recycled into your Grey-wheeled Refuse Bin.
  5. Remember we cannot take building materials, soil, rubble, hazardous waste (e.g. car batteries, motor oil, paint, asbestos), clinical waste or bulky household items in this bin.
  6. If you need a new or replacement grey bin call Contact Oldham on 0161 770 6644.
