Welcome to Planning

The Planning Team is concerned with providing for new development in a sustainable way and protecting and conserving the natural and built environment of the Borough.

The statutory element of the service involves the processing of planning and advertisement applications, local planning inquiries and hearings, enforcement and tree protection. The service also has statutory responsibilities in respect of Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas and provides a wide range of advice and guidance on planning, development and other environmental matters.

All development in the Borough is led by a plan known as the Oldham Unitary Development Plan (UDP). The Strategic Policy & Information team are responsible for the plan and its review and for the implementation of the
new planning system - the Local Development Framework. You can also view information on the UDP and Planning Applications on a map.

Our reception area is located on level 12 of the Civic Centre, on West Street within Oldham Town Centre. If you wish to submit a planning application, inspect the registers of new planning applications, apply to carry out works to protected trees, or report a suspected breach of planning control the reception is open daily from 8.40 am to 5.00 pm. Outside these hours why not use our online planning search?

A duty-planning officer is available each day to discuss planning issues and offer informal advice. If you wish to discuss a particular planning application, please contact the number below to arrange an appointment with the officer dealing with the application.

The Civic Centre is located adjacent to the new award winning Central Bus Station and there is ample car parking adjacent to the Civic Centre.

Alternatively, you can contact planning by telephone, e-mail, post or use our online forms.
