Adopted UDP – July 2006

The UDP was formally adopted on the 14th July 2006 and now supersedes the previous Unitary Development Plan that was adopted in April 1996.

The UDP took effect from this date and is part of the statutory Development Plan for the Borough. It provides the framework for all new developments and will be used to inform decisions relating to the determination of planning applications. To guide these decisions the UDP sets out policies and proposals for the development and use of land in the Borough. The UDP identifies the sites in the Borough where it is proposed to permit housing, employment and shopping developments, amongst others, to take place.

Interactive UDP

An interactive proposals map has now been produced. This online version of the proposals map provides links between areas shown on the map and the policies/proposals that relate to the areas. To view the proposals map, click on the map or the link below.

Click here for further information on the Adopted Unitary Development Plan.

The Council is also preparing a new plan called the Oldham Local Development Scheme (LDS), which will in time replace the revised UDP. Click here for more information about the Local Development Scheme.

Further information on the Development Plan process is available on the Planning Portal, the national source of planning information. The Portal also provides a useful source of information on planning, planning appeals, research and studying for a career in planning.

Make your Planning and Building Control Applications Online

Following the successful introduction of online planning application submissions last year, you can now apply online for Building Regulations applications. You can also make planning applications online through the Planning Portal.

Building Control

The Council’s Building Control Group ensure that the health, safety and welfare of people in and about buildings is safeguarded. Building designs and subsequent site works are supervised to national standards known as the Building Regulations.

Our Building Control Officers inspect all types of building works; from minor domestic drainage alterations to major projects such as the construction of large industrial buildings and schemes.
