| The Gateways to Oldham project will provide new and refurbished social housing on five sites across the borough, specifically the existing Crossley and Primrose Bank estates and three “brownfield” sites in Coldhurst, Westwood and Fitton Hill |
The Gateways project will deliver:
430 new homes, mostly Council properties for rent but with some for sale. Most of these homes will be much needed 3, 4- and 5-bedroom houses
324 refurbished Council homes; mostly family houses
Enhanced recreational facilities, including the provision of new community centres on Crossley and Primrose Bank, landscaping and improved amenity space
Improvements to parking provision, footpaths and street lighting.
Oldham Council has formally appointed Inspiral as Preferred Bidder to deliver this major investment of £130 million in new public housing.
Over the last 2 ½ years, Inspiral has been in competition with other bidders to develop affordable and innovative proposals for the delivery of high-quality housing on these sites. There has also been extensive consultation with local residents, and two Stakeholder Groups of residents have helped the Council evaluate proposals.
Three partners form “Inspiral” - Regenter, Great Places and ROK Construction.
The Council expects to sign a contract with its Preferred Bidder in the Spring of 2010.
In addition to carrying out construction, refurbishment and infrastructure improvements, the contractor will also be responsible for maintaining and managing social rented properties and the estates throughout the 25-year duration of the Gateways contract.
In advance of the start of the “Gateways to Oldham” project, Oldham Council officers have already re-housed residents from over 250 properties and over 150 homes have also been demolished on the Crossley and Primrose Bank estates.
