What is a citizenship ceremony?

A citizenship ceremony is when the Home Office invites you to give an oath of allegiance or (a citizenship pledge).

Invitation to the ceremony

You will be invited to a ceremony if:

• your application for British citizenship is successful; and if

• you are 18 years or older

Your invitation will have:

• guidance notes explaining the next steps to take

• the wording of the Oath or Affirmation of allegiance and citizenship Pledge

• your personal details for you to check

• the telephone number and address of your local authority

Do I need to attend?

You must attend the ceremony if you wish to become a British citizen.

What do I do after getting an invitation?

Once you have received the information you need to contact Oldham Register Office to book the next available ceremony.
