Adapting the timetable

Schools can move up to 5 holidays to close for:

Community and voluntary controlled schools wishing to amend holiday dates must identify the alternative days when school will be open to pupils and obtain the agreement of the Local Authority to the proposed change.

Polling days

Polling usually takes place on the first Thursday in May

Schools that are used as polling stations and cannot operate while polling takes place must close the school to pupils.

Polling day must be taken as one of the 5 flexible days and an alternative school day be identified to ensure that pupils are taught for the required 190 days.

Voluntary Aided Schools, Foundation Schools, Trust Schools and Academies should advise local education authorities of the School Year that will apply to their school.

Additional holidays

Schools can have 3 additional non-teaching days.

Schools must inform local education authorities of the additional days set.
