Oldham Family Information Service (FIS) will provide you with help, advice and guidance on all aspects of childcare. The FIS is a free, impartial service designed to meet the needs of everyone in the local community – providing up to date information on childcare services for all children between the ages of 0-20.
For Parents and Carers
- We will help you find quality, affordable childcare in Oldham that suits your needs and fits in with your lifestyle.
- We will provide you with details of Holiday Clubs and Out of School Clubs in your local area as well as Private Day Nurseries, Pre-school Playgroups, Childminders, Toddler Groups etc.
- We will provide you with information about childcare grants, funding and benefits; for example the “Working Tax Credit” which contains a childcare element that may pay up to 80% of your childcare costs.
- Help us shape the future of childcare in your local area. Complete the online Parents' Questionnaire so we can continue to help you find quality, affordable childcare that meets your needs and exceeds your expectations.
- You can also access a list of childcare providers within the borough of Oldham by going to the ChildcareLink website. Please note, this is not a full list as some settings do not wish to advertise their service via the website. For a complete list, please call the Family Information Service.

- We will provide you with accurate and up to date information and advice on the different careers in childcare and childcare job vacancies.
- We offer a free “Making Choices” course that will help you decide on a childcare role that suits you.
- We will provide you with information on training courses such as an NVQ in childcare & education as well as any funding that is available in the Oldham area.
