Our service for children with disabilities, from birth to age 18, aims to give each child the opportunity to lead as normal a life as possible and develop to their maximum potential. The service is a joint Children, Young People and Families Health project and we offer the following social work services, including:
counselling advice and support for children and their parents
links with other organisations who can help, such as the health and education services
alternative care, such as family placement, respite and specialist placement
Community nursing, including:
encouraging children to develop self-help skills in eating, dressing and toilet training
helping parents to deal with their child's challenging behaviour
monitoring medication and management of epilepsy
Clinical psychologist, offering:
assessment and advice on child development
consultancy and advice to team members and specialist nursery staff
assessment and advice on children's problem behaviour
