Oldham Council does not have separate schemes for Disability, Race and Gender. The Council has developed one generic scheme that not only covers these 3 strands, but also goes beyond the legislation and covers Age, Religion and Belief, Sexual Orientation and Transgender people.

This Generic Equality Scheme (2007-10) outlines how Oldham Council intends to improve its performance in equality and diversity over the next 3 years. It provides an overview of how the Council manages the equalities agenda and outlines in detail the targets and action that will be taken in all Directorates and how these will be monitored and reviewed.

The following legislation outlines that by law we must have an Equality Scheme which sets out how we plan to meet the ‘general and statutory duties’ contained in each piece of legislation:

The Scheme shows how we intend to meet the duties contained in the above legislation and make equality integral in the Council’s day-to-day business. It includes details of our Equality Action Plans and Targets and monitoring arrangements. It also includes details of how we assess the potential impact of our policies and services and our arrangements for consulting with our communities and staff.

Does the Council have an Equality Policy?

Oldham Council does have a Comprehensive Equality Policy. This Policy is built into the Councils Generic Equality Scheme and can be found within the Appendices of the Generic Equality Scheme.
