The Community Development Team co-ordinates and contributes to the Council's work to promote community cohesion in Oldham; support the development of the voluntary and community sector; and helps get local people involved in planning and decision making. In developing this work the team works closely with a range of external organisations and partnerships including: Voluntary Action Oldham and the Voluntary, Community and Faith Sector Partnership, the Community Empowerment Team (who have the lead role in creating Oldham's Community Network), the Community Legal and Advice Services Partnership (CLASP), Oldham's Community Cohesion Partnership, and the Home Office Community Cohesion Unit.
The team play's a key role in: developing and implementing Oldham's Community Cohesion Action Plan; supporting the continued development of the voluntary and community sector; administration of around £1.8m per year of grants to the voluntary and community sector; and facilitating the active involvement of local people in planning and decision making - for example to enable them to contribute to Community Planning and the development of Oldham's plans for Housing Market Renewal.
