Oldham Council provides a wide range of services for the people of the Borough and manages an annual budget totalling about £500 million.

The work of the Council is undertaken by five directorates which are answerable to the Cabinet of the Council. An Arms Length Management Organisation is responsible for the management and upkeep of the Council's housing stock.

The Cabinet is the decision making body of the Council and acts in line with the policy framework and budget of the Council. Overview and Scrutiny Commissions exist which can question decisions taken by the Cabinet and help in policy development.

A Standards Committee, Audit Committee, Licensing Committee, Planning Committee and Appeals Committee complete the municipal decision-making structure.

The matters to be discussed by the Council, Cabinet and the above Committees and the outcomes of their meetings are recorded in the Executive Decision Recording system which is available on this website.

The Council also has 12 Community Councils which allow local people to put forward their priorities for the area in which they live, suggest improvements and have their say on how services are run on a local basis.
