You can go rock climbing in Oldham or you can go sail boarding, watch football, cricket or rugby league. You can also enjoy the Pennine countryside and the Peak National Park, walk or cycle along canal tow paths or treat yourself to an excellent curry or fish and chips.

If it’s the great outdoors you’re looking for, remember Oldham is two thirds open countryside and conveniently placed to explore the natural beauty of its immediate and not so immediate surroundings.

The parks of Oldham are especially noteworthy. These range from the Victorian splendour of Alexandra Park to the picturesque woodlands of Tandle Hill. In total the Council owns and manages 24 parks and country parks and runs visitor centres in five parks and countryside venues. Walks and other activities are arranged for members of the public and interest groups on a regular basis throughout the year.

Restoration of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal through Saddleworth has been completed to further enhance recreational provision in the Borough.

Oldham Community Leisure Limited operates five sports centres throughout the Borough offering indoor provision for a range of sports, including squash, badminton, basketball and netball. The town centre located Oldham Sports Centre includes a unique five metre high climbing wall with modernised facilities including a new fitness suite and sauna. There are also seven swimming pools across the Borough.

Five synthetic, floodlit all-weather playing venues are handily situated around Oldham. They enable school and community groups to pursue training or fixtures in football, hockey, cricket and other sports throughout the year whatever the weather.

Everyone in the community has the opportunity to benefit from our facilities. Clubs and individuals are encouraged to use them for organised as well as social competition. Staff are always on hand to show people around and to answer questions and listen to suggestions. If you would like to hire one of our facilities as a club or group organiser or as an individual just contact the centre of your choice.
