The Talking Book Service

Free to the visually impaired and some other people with disabilities.

Oldham Libraries' Talking Book Service provides books on CD and tape for use at home and is provided free to visually impaired people and to some other people with disabilities. Make your choice of reading from over 2700 titles in your own home, and have tapes delivered direct to you by post. The postal service is free and all our tapes and CDs play on an ordinary cassette/CD player.

How do I join?

Just ring Oldham Library Talking Book Service on 0161 770 8003. We will talk to you about how the service work, discuss the books available and send your first book out on the same day.

How do I reserve a title?

You can reserve any title on our online catalogue, by post, by email or on the telephone. Let us know if we don’t stock the titles you require, we may be able to get them for you.

How do I find out about new books?

Your own catalogue will be brought up to date on request and all new titles are announced in the Talking Newspaper.

What if I don’t have a cassette player or CD player?

We can help by putting you in touch with local organisations who will be able to obtain one for you. Contact us at Oldham Library – 0161 770 8003
