The History of Centre
Since it was first opened in 1895 by the Oldham Poor Children's Holiday Association, the Castleshaw Centre (formerly known as Castleshaw cottage) has been providing opportunities for the young people of Oldham to experience life in the Pennines.
Over the years it has done this in many ways - as a holiday retreat for "delicate children", as a sanatorium school for young people with Tuberculosis, and as a camp school, operated in a similar manner to a Youth Hostel.
Castleshaw Centre today
Castleshaw Centre offers a wide range of services to schools including:
- Fully or partly led courses.
- Residential and non-residential.
- Fully catered, self catering or combination courses.
- Mid week, weekend, and school holiday courses.
In addition to the Centre residential facilities, we also have a field which can be used for camping. Our courses in term time are all linked to the national curriculum, and include:
- Environmental Education Courses with links to many aspects of the curriculum including Geography, Science, History and Maths.
- Outdoor and adventurous activities with links to the P.E. curriculum etc.
Further details of the courses we provide can be found in the Activities section.
