You may be able to apply for concessionary fares schemes operated by the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive (GMPTE) and there may be help available from Oldham Council - Children, Young People and Families.
GMPTE can also help you plan your journey from home to school. You can call into any Travel Shop, telephone the GMPTE helpline or use the website.
Oldham Council is also developing safer cycling and walking routes. You can get advice on cycle routes from the Council's Cycling Officer.
Full time students resident in Greater Manchester aged 16-19.
You can travel on buses within Greater Manchester at the standard concessionary fare (currently 70p per flat rate journey), plus approximately half fare on trains and trams. The Scholar’s permit can only be used from home to place of study, Mondays to Fridays, up to 6.00 pm. The Scholar's permit can also be used for other curriculum related studies with a “variance voucher” (contact your school or college).

If you need to use two or more buses to get to school or college you can claim for the second (and subsequent) concessionary fare. You must pay the first concessionary fare and you must be studying on a full time course at the nearest available school or college.
If you would qualify under this scheme but you travel by bicycle, you can claim a mileage allowance.

If you attend a sixth form in a special school you will be eligible for support with transport. If you attended a mainstream school up to year 11, and transport was provided in your Statement, you will continue to receive support with transport to the nearest suitable school or college. Children, Young People and Families will decide on the type of provision to be made, in consultation with the school. You will be encouraged and supported to become an independent traveller wherever possible.

If you have moderate or severe learning disabilities or certain other severe physical difficulties / sensory impairment, you can apply for a free travel pass which provides free travel on buses, trains and trams within Greater Manchester, and travel at approximately half the full fare to neighbouring counties.

If you have other physical difficulties / sensory impairment, you may be entitled to a concessionary travel pass , which entitles you to pay the standard concessionary fare (currently 70p) for bus journeys within Greater Manchester.
