Parent Sport Leadership is a two fold approach to getting parents qualified to the Day leadership awards and using the Play ground toolkit devised by the youth sport directory.

The aim of the scheme is to help parents develop key employable skills through sports leadership as well as help schools raise standards in physical activity and help develop and sustain after school clubs.
We have just piloted the scheme at St Hildas primary and St Thomas primary school. The training ran over 6 weeks, and covers the basic sports leadership skills and organising school sports events. The pilot course ran successfully and came to an end with a school sport day and afternoon.
All parents, mid day supervisors enjoyed the new leadership experience and will continue their good work
We will now review and evaluate the pilot course, and then look to devise and deliver INSET days April 2008.
Oldham Sport Development has developed a one-day workshop designed for Midday Supervisors. The workshop looks at basic leadership, communication skills and the ability to organise activities during lunchtimes using minimal equipment, minimal time and minimal space. The workshop is also acts as a forum for the Midday Supervisors to pass on the good practice that is taking place in their individual schools.

The Pilots have taken place at Firbank Primary School, Knowsley Junior School and Stanley Road Community Primary School. 30 members of staff from 11 Schools throughout the Borough have taken part in the workshops and the feedback we have received is very positive. One member of staff spoke of how good it was to see workshops being put together for Midday Supervisors, as they had not been on training for their jobs previously.
Through our evaluation process we have found that the attendees would like to see more practical workshops developed for adults other than teachers working in schools throughout the Borough.
