Tatton Park 2003 – Gold Medal

Oldham Council won gold at RHS Tatton Show 2003 in the ‘Best in Show category’. The group who work in horticulture at Oldham Council, won the prize for their superb display representing a barge on the Borough’s newly restored canals.

Five modern apprentice gardeners faced the tough task of bringing 2,500 plants to perfect splendour for the show.

The theme used had to be in keeping with a local event or activity and the Council thought the restoration of the Rochdale Canal and Huddersfield Narrow Canal, which both run through parts of Oldham would a great project to showcase.

The flower-decked vessel formed the centre piece of the 6m x 4m bed designed to be like a canal lock. The barge looked as if it was floating on water in an ambitious design created by the show’s plant company sponsors Ballcotegrave.

Tatton Park 2002 – Gold Medal

The Council won Gold in 2002 with their design representing the mills of Oldham and the cotton industry.
