Oldham Council apprentices, in partnership with the up and coming Oldham born landscape designer Philip Hinchliffe of Just Living Gardens have won a Silver Gilt medal at the RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park 2007 in the ‘Back to Back Garden’ category.
The judging took place on Tuesday 17 July, and Oldham Council and Philip Hinchliffe were awarded their prize on Wednesday 18 July. The Silver Gilt medal was the second highest award presented in this year’s back to back category. The Mayor of Oldham Councillor Ann Wingate JP and her Consort Parish Councillor Ken Wingate were among the thousands of visitors to the Garden.
Oldham Council have enjoyed success at Tatton in the past. The Council’s Park apprentices based in Alexandra Park won gold at the Tatton Show in the Flower Bed Competition in 2002 and 2003.
With over 100,000 people visiting the event Oldham’s award winning garden has received a high level of exposure helping to improve the awareness of Oldham and sponsoring organisations. Alongside the garden the Environmental Services and Regeneration Directorates promoted the Borough with a marquee at the show.
