Tatton Show 2007 Marquee

At this year's RHS Tatton Show the Regeneration and Environmental Services Directorates had the opportunity to promote the Borough of Oldham in our very own marquee.

The marquee display focused on Oldham's 'Great Green Spaces', using a plan of the Borough's key green sites (please note - file size 7.9MB), a range of promotional materials, and the following interesting facts and figures:

  • Over 50% of the borough of Oldham is Greenbelt - that’s 6,255 Hectares!
  • Alexandra Park – Oldham’s Grade 2 listed Victorian park is the ‘finest park in the land’ according to the Director of the National Parks Agency
  • Oldham has 2 canals – the Huddersfield Narrow Canal and Rochdale Canal, which stretch over 8 miles across the borough
  • An amazing 7 Green Flag parks and 3 Country Parks provide a fantastic green heart for Oldham’s communities
  • Oldham is the gateway to the Southern Pennines and the Peak District National Park
  • The highest, longest and deepest canal tunnel in Britain - The Standedge Tunnel - runs through the Borough
  • Oldham contains over 546 hectares of nationally or internationally important habitats and landscapes
  • 22% of the borough of Oldham is within the Peak District National Park
  • Oldham is at the heart of the Pennine Edge Forest (which stretches from Rochdale to Stockport)
