The two volume Municipal Yearbook has information about and contact details for Local Authorities in Great Britain. The information covers government bodies, Parliamentary constituencies, health authorities, registrars, housing associations, financial information and much more.

Use this to find details of ministers in key government positions and information about government departments and agencies.

Dod’s Parliamentary Companion
This gives details of government and opposition ministers, MPs and the House of Commons, Peers and the House of Lords, government and public offices, elections and more.

Acts of Parliament
We have the Acts of Parliament and Statutory Instruments in print. We also subscribe to the Justis database which you can use in any of our Oldham libraries. This easy to search database provides the full text of UK Statutes and Statutory Instruments.

Information on the Internet

You can also use our public computers to find government and official information in any of our libraries. These are free to use although there is a small charge if you wish to print information out. Just pop into your local library for more information.

UK government information and services - As well as government departments, the site links through to relevant third parties which can offer additional trusted advice and support.

Department for Communities and Local Government - responsible for local and regional government, housing, planning, fire, regeneration, social exclusion and neighbourhood renewal.

Department for Work and Pensions - The Department for Work and Pensions is here to promote opportunity and independence for all through modern, customer-focused services.

Department of Trade and Industry - The DTI drives it's ambition of 'prosperity for all' by working to create the best environment for business success in the UK. We help people and companies become more productive by promoting enterprise, innovation and creativity.

Neighbourhood Renewal Unit - The Neighbourhood Renewal Unit (NRU) is responsible for overseeing the Government's comprehensive neighbourhood renewal strategy. A strategy that responds to local circumstances rather than directs everything from Whitehall.

Department for Children, Schools and Families - The Department for Children, Schools and Families was established with the purpose of creating opportunity, releasing potential and achieving excellence for all. Here you can read information specifically about the Department including departmental reports and strategy. You will also find information about their Ministerial team, a Who's Who chart and details about how to contact them.

Department for Culture Media and Sport - It's aim to improve the quality of life for all through cultural and sporting activities, to support the pursuit of excellence and to champion the tourism, creative and leisure industries.

Office for Standards in Education - Ofsted is the inspectorate for children and learners in England. It is their job to contribute to the provision of better education and care through effective inspection and regulation.

UK legislation and government publications - The Office of Public Sector Information is at the heart of information policy, setting standards, delivering access and encouraging re-use of public sector information. They provide online access to UK legislation, license the re-use of Crown copyright material, manage the Information Fair Trader Scheme, maintain the Government’s Information Asset Register and provide advice and guidance on official publishing and Crown copyright.

Official Documents – Official Documents is the official reference facility for Command and departmentally sponsored House of Commons Papers. From May 2005 onwards, all Command Papers and House of Commons Papers, as well as Key Departmental Papers, are available for free on the site in PDF format. A selection of key papers published before May 2005 are also available for free in their archive.

UK official statistics - ONS is responsible for producing a wide range of economic and social statistics. It also registers life events and holds the decennial census of the population.

Census statistics - A Census is a survey of all people and households in the country. It provides essential information from national to neighbourhood level for government, business, and the community. The most recent Census was on 29 April 2001. This site takes you to its findings which are available free to everyone. Plans are being made to hold the next one in 2011.

UK Parliament– A website with lots of information, including a directory of MPs, House of Commons information and House of Lords page.

ePolitix – Provides the latest political news, the largest single collection of MP websites, political interviews and politics blogs, details of parliamentary legislation, policy briefings from our Stakeholders, and Policy Consultations where organisations and politicians debate key issues.

HM Revenue and Customs – HMRC is responsible for collecting the bulk of tax revenue as well as paying tax credits and child benefit, and strengthening the UK’s frontiers.

Greater Manchester Police Authority - Here you will find details of the authority's current membership, the way in which members are appointed and the rules which govern how they carry out their responsibilities.

Association of Police Authorities - The Association of Police Authorities was set up on 1st April 1997 to represent police authorities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, both on the national stage and locally. It influences policy on policing and it supports local police authorities in their important role.
