Q. If I undertake drugs or alcohol rehabilitation, how long will I stay in treatment?

Treatment is dependent upon need and can range from several weeks to long term care.

Q. Will I have help with after care - finding accommodation, support, training and employment after I leave rehab?

If you are in a residential service that service will plan your aftercare needs. Community services will help you with the above.

Q. Will it work?

That depends on you.

Q. How much does it cost?

There is no cost for community treatment. Fore residential placements your means will be assessed.

Q. How long will I have to wait for treatment?

Community treatment:

  • Drop in twice a week

  • Assessment within 3 weeks

  • Treatment programmed within a further 2 weeks

Residential treatment:

  • Depends on places and funding

Q. Can I keep my home while in treatment?

If you are in a residential rehab housing benefit will be paid for up to twelve months.

Q. Will I have a choice?

Yes, you will be involved in choosing your treatment package.

Q. I have recently been diagnosed with HIV. What help can I get from Social Services?

Contact the Physical and Sensory Social Work Team they will arrange an assessment of your needs.

Q. I want to get advice on HIV testing, where should I go?

Contact the Phoenix Sexual Health Centre at the Royal Oldham Hospital on 0161 627 8394.

Q. I am worried about confidentiality. What reassurances can the Council give me?

Information will only be shared with partner agencies involved in your care. We will ask for your permission before sharing any information.

Q. My relative has been sectioned, what does this mean?

Being 'sectioned' means that a person has been detained compulsorily by law under the Mental Health Act 1983.

Q. If I am in hospital will I lose my benefits and /or accommodation?

Usually you will not lose your benefits / accommodation but this is dependent upon the length of stay.

Q. Where can I get help if I think I, or someone I know, has a mental health problem?

Q. How do I contact Social Services in an emergency?

Adult and Community Services - Adult Social Care has an Emergency Duty Team. The team provide an emergency social work service to people in crisis to meet their urgent needs out of office hours.

The service is provided by an experienced social worker who is able to respond if necessary to the needs of people in crisis.

An emergency social work situation is one that has happened suddenly and unexpectedly and has to be dealt with urgently concerning an older person, a disabled person, someone with mental health problems or a child at risk.

If you get our answerphone or the number is engaged, it means that the Emergency Duty Team is dealing with another urgent matter. Please leave a message and the Emergency Duty Team will call you back as soon as possible.
