What is a civil partnership and who is it for?

A civil partnership can be formed between two people of the same sex.

They must:

  • Both be over 18 years old, or over 16 years old with parental consent

  • Not already be married or in partnership

  • Not be related to each other in a way which would prohibit the partnership being formed.

Ceremony

Couples must acknowledge the legal words of the contract and sign the partnership schedule in front of an authorised person (e.g. Registrar) and 2 witnesses.

A ceremony is not required but couples can make the legal process a ceremony.

At approved venues £193.50 (Monday - Saturday)
