Children with Disabilities

Our service for children with disabilities, from birth to age 18, aims to give each child the opportunity to lead as normal a life as possible and develop to their maximum potential. The service is a joint Children, Young People and Families Health project and we offer the following social work services, including:

  • counselling advice and support for children and their parents
  • links with other organisations who can help, such as the health and education services
  • alternative care, such as family placement, respite and specialist placement

Community nursing, including:

  • encouraging children to develop self-help skills in eating, dressing and toilet training
  • helping parents to deal with their child's challenging behaviour
  • monitoring medication and management of epilepsy

Clinical psychologist, offering:

  • assessment and advice on child development
  • consultancy and advice to team members and specialist nursery staff
  • assessment and advice on children's problem behaviour
