Oldham Beyond identifies the Chadderton Technology Park as an important area for investment for creating new employment for the borough. In order to achieve this major regeneration of the area, a master plan is needed to direct and inform the restructuring of the area.
The Chadderton Technology Park is bounded by Oldham Town Centre, the West End, the Werneth Freehold Housing Market Renewal Area and has easy access to the M62 and M60 motorways. It is currently home to Zetex, the only manufacturer of semi-conductors in the UK.
The Master Plan will create a vision for the area in the context of the wider ongoing regeneration in the Werneth/Freehold Housing Market Renewal Initiative, the New West End and the Housing PFI 4 Gateways to Oldham project at Crossley Estate. Chadderton Town Centre is also undergoing a master planning exercise that will seek to strengthen Chadderton Town Centre in terms of opportunities for both retail and local services.
The Master plan is the first stage in bringing about changes to the area in order to attract investment to create quality modern floor space and new jobs.
The completed master plan will provide details of how the area may change in the future as well as indicate how these changes may be achieved.
NEW Masterplanning Ltd, specialists in Economic Planning and Urban Design, were appointed in January 2007 and the master plan should be completed by early summer 2007.
