Book of condolence
23/04/2012 by Gordon Lee
Oldham Council is saddened to announce the death of Councillor Barbara Dawson. Councillor Dawson, Ward Member for Failsworth East, passed away overnight on April 26, 2012.

First elected to her seat in 2004 as a Labour Councillor, Barbara had played a prominent role at Oldham Council in her capacity as the first-ever Chair of the Co-operative Commission, which was established in summer 2011. The Commission played an integral role in guiding the Local Authoritys move towards becoming a Co-operative Council.
Under Councillors Dawsons stewardship members of the Commission who included local residents, public and private sector partners, and representatives from the voluntary sector made important recommendations which saw the Borough adopt a Co-operative Charter and an Ethical Framework.
Members of the public, friends and colleagues are invited to pay their own personal tributes in this online Book of Condolence. Books are also available at the Civic Entrance (formerly Rochdale Road Reception) and at Failsworth Town Hall during normal opening hours.
