The PCT’s £100m LIFT project is now well underway. The 20 year project is being run as a partnership including Oldham Primary Care Trust, Oldham Council and private sector partners. It is being delivered by Community 1st Oldham Ltd.
There are five schemes in the first phase of LIFT and work has now been completed on the first one at Moorside. They are as follows:
Is a £2.3m new medical centre on Ripponden Road in Moorside, replacing one practice working from two small flats, and another practice from Glodwick health centre. It also houses a dental unit, pharmacy, and clinics for young people, health visiting immunisation and vaccination, healthy eating and health promotion, family planning, ante natal, district nursing, podiatry, orthoptics and speech and language therapy. It opened in February 2006.
Is a £6m new centre being built on the site of the old Glodwick Health Centre on Glodwick Road. It will house three GP practices, dental surgeries, a pharmacy, children’s services, an orthoptics clinic, podiatry, older people’s services, sexual health, counselling and other services. Work started in April 2005 with an anticipated completion date of spring 2007.
Is the £15m flagship project next to the bus station in Oldham town centre. It will replace existing services provided from Marjory Lees and Cannon Street health centres, and also include the Walk-in centre. It will be home to GP practices, dental surgeries, a pharmacy, self care facilities, children’s and older people’s services, an orthoptics clinic, podiatry, sexual health, counselling and other services. Planning permission was given by Oldham Council in August 2005 subject to details about parking being worked out. Work will begin in 2006 and is expected to be completed in 2008.
A DVD showing a bird’s eye fly around of the ICC, along with a fly through of the different facilities on offer inside, is on the PCT’s website at www.oldham.nhs.uk.
Will replace five GP practices which are in unsuitable and cramped premises. The vision is to develop a six GP unit with associated health and social care facilities.
Will replace Crompton Health Centre bringing together medical, nursing, therapy and social care services.
Between now and 2010 there will also be new centres in Royton, north and south Chadderton and a development in Springhead.
