New Deal for Communities in Hathershaw & Fitton Hill is one of 39 programmes across the country. Government funded the programme is set to regenerate the area with £53 m. The Programme started in 2001 and will continue until 2011. It is a resident led regeneration programme and is governed by a Management Board which consists of residents, key agents and partners
The vision for the New Deal for Communities Programme in Hathershaw & Fitton Hill is;
Hathershaw & Fitton Hill will be a place where people choose to live and work, with a community to which they are proud to belong
Over the past four years the Programme has undergone a process of change and has recently been restructured into seven review groups to help deliver the programme, these deal with six key themes. These themes will address the programmes original key objectives
Children, Education and Lifelong Learning - to raise aspirations and increase educational attainment
Housing & the Environment - to create a quality environment
Health & Wellbeing - to promote health and wellbeing
Community Cohesion - to create a confident and united community
Crime - to tackle crime and fear of crime
Employment & Enterprise - to remove the barriers to work & to create jobs and support business
The New Deal for Communities Programme funds over 50 projects and all of these fall within one of the above themes. These projects are crucial to delivering the important work of the Programme and are carefully selected because they will help to achieve the key objectives within that theme.
