Get Oldham Working is a Council service that aims to help people find work and training opportunities. The service offers:

  • Help if you are long-term unemployed or have limited recent work experience.

  • Personal learning mentors to assist you with improving your job prospects.
  • Help with writing CVs and making job applications.
  • Help with getting a better job that makes the most of your skills.
  • Information about local jobs and training opportunities, including jobs fairs and other recruitment events.
  • A register you can join if you are seeking work.

Support to Succeed with Get Oldham Working

The Get Oldham Working team are now running free support sessions for those who may be experiencing barriers into work.

Get free access to sessions and activities that will improve your mental health and wellbeing, fitness, money management, nutrition, work skills and more.

National Careers Service

The National Careers Service is a free, high-quality, professional career management, impartial information advice and guidance service. It is available to every adult aged 19 and over living in England. It is also available to every adult aged 18 and over, however, they must be NEET: not in education, employment or training.

As part of the NCS offer you will:

  • Be encouraged to fully participate in developing and agreeing an action plan
  • Lifelong Learning Account and other National Careers Service website tools to help you manage your career
  • Apprenticeships and Traineeships
  • Redundancy support

Restart

The Restart programme is a government initiative, that provides 12 months of personalised enhanced support to help you find a job in your local area. Along with one-to-one support, training and employment opportunities, you also get access to online resources which help with all aspects of your employment journey.

If you are interested in this initiative, you must be referred by your work coach, at the Oldham Job Centre Plus.

Career Advancement Service

The aim of the Career Advancement Service (CAS), is to help employed Oldham residents to raise and achieve their career aspirations.

This could mean achieving a lifelong ambition, earning more money, a change of pace, different working hours or simply a new challenge. You must be an employed Oldham resident.

Oldham’s Youth Hub

Oldham’s Youth Hub consists of a co-ordinated approach, to provide support to Oldham’s young people aged 16-25, who are thinking about getting a job or returning to education or training.

Young people are invited to come along to the base of the hub at our Get Oldham Working office, to get the support they need.

This could be to either find employment, make a career change, or re-engage in education or training at whatever level suits them.
