It is important to secure and keep free from rubbish any unoccupied building that is open to access as soon as possible. Environmental Health Officers in the Public Health Section of the Environmental Services Directorate have powers to require that the owner of an empty property, which is open to access, secures the building in a very short period of time. If the owner does not do this, the Council will secure it and recharge the owner.
The Environmental Health Officers also have powers to require certain ruinous or dilapidated structures to be reinstated or demolished.
