Responsibility for drains and sewers varies depending upon its function and ownership.
Highway drains and gullies – serve the highway network only. To report such problems such as a highway flooding or a blocked gully, telephone 0161 770 4325, or e-mail highways@oldham.gov.uk
Private drains and private sewers – serve houses and business premises and are the responsibility of the owners and occupiers. To report a problem, such as a blockage, flooding or smell or to obtain advice please contact the Public Health section of the Environmental Services Directorate using the Contact Information details listed below.
Public sewers – are the main sewers generally located in the highway and are owned, managed and maintained by United Utilities PLC. To report a problem such as flooding or missing or damaged manhole covers telephone 0845 602 0406.
Rainwater goods – include eaves gutters and rainwater down pipes and are the responsibility of the owners/occupiers. For advice on leaking eaves gutters and rain water pipes please contact the Public Health section of the Environmental Services Directorate using the Contact Information details listed below.
Septic Tanks – are used by properties that are not connected to the mains sewer and are the responsibility of the owners/occupiers. For advice on septic tanks please contact the Public Health section of the Environmental Services Directorate using the Contact Information details listed below.
