The Elections Office is responsible for the administration of local and national elections and for compiling the annual register of electors.
The Electoral Register is a list of everybody who is entitled to vote. At 1st December 2006 there were 154,261 registered electors in Oldham.

Each person is required to register to vote at the address where they are living on 15 October. Registration Forms are sent to every property in August. It is a legal requirement that these forms are returned detailing everyone who is eligible to register.

There are two types of Register published on December each year:
Lists everyone who is entitled to vote. Certain people and organisations (including credit reference agencies) can have copies of the full register. The Full Register is available for inspection at the Elections Office under supervision.
You have the option whether or not you want your name to appear on this register. It is available for commercial sale to any person or organisation wishing to purchase a copy.
The Register is not compiled in name order. There are 20 registers which make up the Oldham Borough. Each register is broken down into districts, the electors are listed by alphabetical street order.
If you fill in a form we can add your name to the electoral register at your new address anytime throughout the year, with the exception of September to November. You must fill in and sign the form yourself. If anyone else in your house is eligible to vote, they must fill in a separate form. Copies of the registration form are available from the Elections Office.
