The Oldham Walton Archive consists of musical scores, books, pamphlets, photographs, newspaper cuttings, cassettes and compact discs on William Walton and his works. The material is housed at Oldham Local Studies and Archives and items can be found in several of the collections, e.g. the photographs are kept in the Oldham Photographic Archive collection. A unique feature of this collection is the availability of scores together with music which can be listened to in the Library. The setting up of the Oldham Walton Archive has largely been made possible by the generous donations of printed material from Oxford University Press and compact discs from Chandos Records. Material in the Oldham Walton Archive is available for reference use at Oldham Local Studies and Archives, 84 Union Street, Oldham - Tel: 0161 770 4654.
Details of all the printed material in the form of books and pamphlets is available from the library catalogue and database. Please ask staff for these items as they are kept in reserve stock.
Newspaper cuttings from the Oldham Chronicle are kept in the Miscellaneous Newspaper Cuttings Collection. They are indexed by subject and are available for browsing in the public area. A separate volume of cuttings on Sir William Walton is available. Please ask for this.
Photographs are housed in the Photographic Collection at GK(WAL) and are available for browsing.
Details of compact discs and cassettes held can be found on the Oldham Walton Archive list. Each item has a number. Please ask for the item you are interested in and listening facilities will be made available.
